Our Mission

The Texture Technician system was created to provide structured education and specialization in textured hair care. While traditional beauty programs often provide limited training in natural hair textures, the Texture Technician certification focuses specifically on techniques that protect, maintain, and support textured hair. Stylists who complete this certification demonstrate a commitment to prioritizing hair health, education, and professional textured hair services.

What is a texture Technician?

A Texture Technician is a hair professional who specializes in the care and maintenance of natural hair textures. Unlike traditional stylists who focus primarily on appearance, Texture Technicians prioritize the health and integrity of the hair throughout every service. They are trained to protect natural hair during styling and support clients in maintaining healthy hair practices over time.

Texture Technicians complete specialized training and certification through I Woke Up Curley and are skilled in one or more of the textured hair service categories within the Texture Technician system.

How To Become A Texture Technician

Step 1 — Apply & Enrollment Fee

Apply and Pay the Enrollment Fee

Stylists interested in becoming Texture Technicians must first apply and submit a $150 enrollment fee. This fee secures your place in the Texture Technician certification pathway and grants access to the certification process.

Step 2 — Complete Certification Training Complete Your Certification Course

Each Texture Technician must complete specialized training through our certification courses hosted on Teachable. Stylists may certify in one or more specialties depending on the services they wish to offer.

Step 3 — Pass the Certification Exam Demonstrate Your Knowledge

After completing the required training, stylists must pass the Texture Technician certification exam to demonstrate their understanding of textured hair care and service standards.

Step 4 — Maintain Active Membership Join the Texture Technician Network

Certified Texture Technicians maintain an active monthly membership to remain listed on the I Woke Up Curley stylist directory and continue using the Texture Technician title.

Membership includes:

  • listing on the website
     
  • permission to use the Texture Technician title
     
  • access to wholesale products
     
  • workshop and event opportunities
